Coursera
Coursera does not make this list of free educational websites because it is completely free, but rather its unique financial aid program.
Financial aid is nothing new to traditional and online universities, but it is typically not an option at these educational websites. The founders of Coursera believe everyone has the right to a quality education.
They allow users to take a course for free, as long as they meet certain criteria. To qualify for financial aid, students must prove the price of the course would cause economic hardship, and that the course has direct and applicable value to their career.
I haven’t personally tried out this system, but I have to assume that it’s much easier than the college financial aid process. Not to mention there is no loan to pay back at an absurd interest rate. They let you take the course completely free of charge.
